The American Red Cross began as an organization with the help of volunteers; people like you who wanted to make a difference. Today, the many programs and services that are provided by the Huntington County chapter are made possible through the dedication and support of our volunteers.

Volunteers from all ages and backgrounds help by assisting victims of disasters such as fires, floods and storms. They provide lifesaving training in CPR, First Aid and water safety programs, educate young adults about HIV/AIDS prevention, deliver meals and provide transportation to the elderly and disabled, help to collect blood, and communicate information to members of the Armed Forces and their families. Others help through office work, special events and fund-raising.

Opportunities exist that allow you to put your current skills to use helping others. Opportunities also exist that allow you to develop new skills as well. Whatever your interest, as long as you have a desire to help make someone's life a little brighter, the Red Cross has a place for you.

Background Check Initiative

The American Red Cross will now require a mandatory background check of all employees and volunteers under an organization-wide initiative. All new and former employees and volunteers will be given a background check which includes a criminal history check for the past 7 years and a social security number verification. Although this program is a major change and will require many long-time Red Crossers to have background checks, we believe it is a positive action that will benefit each of us and the people we serve.
